We took our place in NÜKSAK
Pegasus was among the companies leading the establishment of the domestic nuclear industry by being part of the Nuclear Industry Cluster (NÜKSAK), which was established with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Technology in coordination with the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO). NÜKSAK, which was established with the aim of taking an active role of Turkish companies in nuclear energy investments and serving as a supplier of materials and technology in nuclear power plant projects of the Turkish industrialist, is among the most unique and successful examples of clustering in Turkey. Another important goal at ASO NÜKSAK, which started its activities in 2017, is to “support domestic and national production by providing localization in NGS projects and infrastructures of projects”. In the long term, NÜKSAK aims to make its members suppliers to NGSs around the world. EXAMPLES FROM AROUND THE WORLD In addition to ASO, NÜKSAK includes nearly 40 companies that want to take part in the Istanbul, Kocaeli and Adana Chambers of Industry, Istanbul Technical University, Gedik University and the nuclear energy sector. These companies will gain the capability to produce products and services that can be used in nuclear power plants under the roof of NÜKSAK and design, manufacturing, assembly and testing capabilities related to these services. Nuclear energy in the world is one of the most critical factors in the development of countries… Energy, which has a very important share in Turkey’s import items and foreign trade deficit, equipment produced in Turkey and NGSs to be built by companies based in Turkey are seen as an important step that can save Turkey from the current account deficit. Nurettin Özdebir, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ankara Chamber of Industry, stated that their main strategy is to make the existing domestic industrial infrastructure efficient for the nuclear sector and to prevent repeated investments. In this way, Turkish industry will gain competitiveness in the nuclear sector and gain international advantage in planned nuclear power plant projects in our immediate vicinity. Looking at the examples of the world, it is not possible to carry out technology transfer in the nuclear field only with the support of public institutions or only the private sector. However, it is possible to achieve success under the leadership of the state with the active participation of the private sector.” “PRODUCING IN TURKEY IS LOCATED” Pegasus Co-Founder Onur Atakay stated that every company producing in Turkey should be called “domestic” regardless of the source of capital, and reminded that the goal is to give companies under the roof of NÜKSAK the ability to produce products and services capable of being used in nuclear power plants. Atakay said: “The more we bring our companies as suppliers to the nuclear power plants to be built in our country, the more effective and influential we will be in the value added chain. It should be our homework to lead the establishment of a domestic nuclear industry that works in line with the principles of sustainable development, innovation and efficiency, which is both effective in the domestic market and export power.”
